Uppsala is a small city of around 200,000 people, 40 minutes from Stockholm, with a student population of around 40,000. It’s located on a river and is really pretty. I came here to visit Felicia, who I met at the Full moon party in Thailand. She studies here and lives in a student accommodation block about 15 minutes walk from the town centre. Friday morning I arrived and contacted Felicia & she came and got me from the train station. Over the weekend I met lots of Felicia’s friends. We went for a beer Friday afternoon in a student bar and had a quick look around town; we just chilled and watched a few episodes of Entourage in the evening. After an amazing sleep, Saturday morning we headed into town with Jennifer and Camilla, Felicia’s mates. We enjoyed a morning & afternoon of Fika.
Fika is a Swedish word, which means having a break, like a coffee break, with friends or family and is usually accompanied with something sweet, like cake or biscuits. It was a great day to chill out, it was 8°, and relax.
After some cooked chicken and broccoli, Felicia and I made our way down to the Irish bar in town, O’Conner’s, and met up with Phil. Camilla also came down and we celebrated her 21st birthday. As she grew up in America, we agreed she deserved a special drink, so Phil bought her a Pina Colada. Camilla & Felicia had study to go on with, and Phil and I had partying to go on with, so the girls went home and we went clubbing. Phil’s friends were out so we partied with them. The club was massive, with lots of areas to relax or dance. Beers were 50 SEK & shots were around 60 SEK or $8.60AUD. We got home around 5am. On Sunday morning around 10am we headed over to Camilla’s and she cooked breakfast for her birthday. We had a table full of Pancakes with cream and jam, Bacon and eggs, toast, fruit, juice and coffee… YUM. Phil and I hung out at he’s friends place just lounging around and watching movies. It was the perfect way to chill after a night out.
On Sunday night Felicia and I had Indian for dinner. It was delicious. Two meals and a beer cost 345 SEK or around $50 and this wasn’t an expensive restaurant. It was great to hang out with Felicia and hang out in a smaller place. I took the train back to Stockholm on Monday morning, it cost around $15AUD.
